Business Networking

Why to deal with this? Business networking is a socioeconomic activity by which groups of like-minded businesspeople recognize, create, or act upon business opportunities. A business network is a type of social network whose reason for existing is business activity. Networking allows the business person to build new business relationships and generate business opportunities at the same time. Business networking can be conducted in a local business community, or on a larger scale via the Internet.

Note the following:

  • Networking is relationship marketing.
  • Networking is NOT about selling, used car salesme style.
  • Networking is about building ongoing reciprocal relationships with like-minded professionals.
  • Networking is NOT about being pushy, or trying to make quota.
  • Networking is a long-term, ongoing process that takes time, but when established, provides you with a team of advocates that voluntarily promote you and your business.
When is it suitable/applicable? Any time
Business networking can be beneficial at different levels and departments of a company: from product development (new stimuli for innovative products/services and opportunities for sharing risks in joint research &technical development projects) or sourcing (purchasing cooperatives) to marketing (access to new markets via local partners)
When is it NOT suitable/applicable? If your business has a strong regional orientation, focus should be on regional networks.
What costs are related to it (financial, time effort etc.)? Adjustable, according to time available
