DescriptionThe pilot-scale continuous tubular microwave heating system is designed to heat continuously pumpable fluid or semi-fluid foods, e.g. particulate soups, sauces, salsas, diary products or fruit preparations. The system could be used for e.g. pasteurisation, commercial sterilisation, scalding, swelling etc. The system could be pressurised, in order to give possibilities to reach temperatures as high as 140°C, under UHT-like conditions. There are several advantages with this technology due to volumetric heating: high product quality also of the particulates, faster more lenient heating with less shear-forces and reduced heating up times, less space requiring equipment etc. The system is equipped with a control system which enables fast control and swith e.g. between pre-sterilisation of the system with water, followed by commercial sterilisation at UHT-like conditions (e.g. up to 140°C) of fluid or semi-fluid food products.
