Scale-up
Why to deal with this? | The commercial application of a technology developed in the laboratory to industrial application requires the scaling up from the bench scale to the industrial scale. The scale up of process technologies to the pilot scale demonstrates the scalability of the technology and reduces the risks & costs associated with commercialization.
Why is upscaling an important issue?
|
---|---|
When is it suitable/applicable? | Up-scaling is necessary when the proof-of-concept of a process or technology has been obtained and a pilot at lab scale of the has been developed, in order to start the commercialisation of the technology. |
When is it NOT suitable/applicable? | Normally not applicable for new formulation/recipe development, but rather for process technologies. |
What costs are related to it (financial, time effort etc.)? | Staff and material costs for taking care of challenges described above (geometrical, chemical, administrative changes related to upscaling) |
What’s the relevant HTE output? | The search function of this website (Food Tech Innovation Portal) will help you identify institutes and technology centres with experience in your technology area. They can support upscaling by providing access to their expertise and infrastuctures. |
